Grandson Of Worcester Veteran To Receive Long-Lost Purple Heart

Sgt. Thomas​ Flynn was born in 1896 in Worcester.

WORCESTER, MA — A long-lost Purple Heart medal will be returned to the grandson of a military veteran.

Thomas Brigham will receive the recovered medal in honor of his grandfather, Sgt. Thomas Flynn, who was born in 1896 in Worcester. He served with Company G of the 9th Infantry and 101st Infantry with the Massachusetts National Guard.

The medal was retrieved by the Unclaimed Property Division and traced back to the Flynn family. It is part of the state Treasury's effort to reunite military ghonors with rightful heirs.

Massachusetts Treasurer Deborah B. Goldberg will return the medal. The event will take place on Sept. 9 at noon in the State House Treasurer's Office.
