SHREWSBURY, MA — A Shrewsbury postal carrier was honored for his heroism. Pjerin Kita was honored at a recognition ceremony on Wednesday after extinguishing a fire outside a home in January.

Kita noticed the smoke and fire and moved quickly to move the recycling bin, where the flames started. He also poured water on the bin to stop the spread of fire before firefighters arrived, according to a report from WBZ News.

“His quick thinking and actions saved the house from significant damage,” wrote the Shrewsbury Fire Department in an announcement on Thursday. “The Shrewsbury Fire Department extends its heartfelt gratitude for his heroic actions.”
