WORCESTER, MA — A judge is considering whether to release the man who shot at two family members and Worcester police officers in 2023, according to the Telegram and Gazette.
Boateng, 26, was found not guilty by reason of insanity on Aug. 8, according to the newspaper. Patch previously reported that authorities said he shot his mother and brother at a home along Colby Avenue, then engaged in a 13-hour standoff with police that ended with him being shot and subdued by a K-9.

The Telegram and Gazette reported that Boateng, whose family members survived the incident, had been held in state custody since July 2023. After this year's ruling, he was sent to Bridgewater State Hospital, and the state argued that he is not fit to be released, the newspaper reported.
The state now asks Superior Court Judge Karin Bell to consider whether he should be committed to the same hospital for another six months.
