WORCESTER, MA — State and local leaders joined together for a groundbreaking ceremony in Worcester on Wednesday.

The first two phases have officially begun for the Lakeside Apartments redevelopment in the city, according to the Worcester Housing Authority. The project will include 350 new apartments and 10 affordable homeownership units at 30 Lakeside Ave. in Worcester's Columbus Park neighborhood.

The apartments, which are over 75 years old, will undergo reconstruction to add 350 new modern apartments, replacing the existing 202 units. There will be a range of affordability options within the apartments as well, according to WHA.
