MA Man Sentenced In 2013 Fatal Shooting Of Shaun Hibbard

He was found guilty of second-degree murder in October.

FITCHBURG, MA — A Fitchburg man was sentenced to serve life in prison with parole eligibility after 20 years for the 2013 killing of another man.

John Yang, 44, was found guilty of second-degree murder on Oct. 14. He was accused of shooting 33-year-old Shaun Hibbard in August 2013, according to the Worcester County District Attorney.

Investigators determined that Hibbard was shot during a confrontation near his car, which was parked at Forest and Charles Street. He ran up the street, knocking and doors and looking for help, according to the DA.

The DA said Hibbard was found on the front porch of a home on Forest Street and taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

“It is my hope that today’s sentencing brings a measure of closure to Mr. Hibbard’s family and loved ones after these 12 years,” said DA Joseph D. Early.
