Man Faces Charges After Assaults Ending At MGM Casino

Williams was booked on charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (shod foot), assault to murder

SPRINGFIELD, MA—A Springfield man was arrested on Sunday evening after an assault and battery at the MGM Springfield Casino.

Devon Williams, 27, was arrested on assault and battery charges, with evidence suggesting the assault wasn't only random, but may be connected to three other attacks in the city that occurred earlier that day.

Springfield police responded to three incidents that started around 3:40 p.m. in which a man assaulted three people at Grenada Terrace, Sumner Ave. and Kimberly Ave. Around 4:40 p.m., Williams reportedly used a Main Street entrance to go into the MGM without warning or provocation and assaulted a man from New York state. The victim was transported to Baystate Medical Center with serious injuries.

The suspect fled the scene, but a security guard spotted his license plate, and troopers tracked him down and less than two hours at an apartment on Chestnut Street.

Williams was booked on charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (shod foot), assault to murder, and assault and battery causing serious bodily injury. He was held on $100,000 cash bail pending his expected arraignment today. Prosecutors were expected to seek a dangerous hearing to have him held, said police.
