MA School District Halts MCAS Testing After Student Injured By Laptop
MCAS testing is taking place across Massachusetts this week for elementary and middle school students.

UXBRIDGE, MA — A Whitin Intermediate School student was injured by a malfunctioning laptop Tuesday, prompting school officials to cancel ongoing MCAS testing.
The student was burned by the laptop after the device began smoking in the middle of the MCAS English language test for middle schoolers, the district said in a news release. The fire also forced the evacuation of the school.
The student was taken by their guardian to seek medical treatment, school officials said.
