Mother, Daughter Killed In Worcester Shooting
The shooting happened Tuesday afternoon in the Columbus Park neighborhood.

WORCESTER, MA — A mother and daughter died Tuesday in Worcester following a shooting in the Columbus Park neighborhood, according to police.
The shooting happened around 3 p.m. along Lisbon Street. The two victims were taken to a local hospital, where they were pronounced dead, police in a news release Wednesday. The pair were shot while they were inside a parked car.
Police did not immediately announce any arrests related to the killings. The victims were the third and fourth homicide victims in Worcester so far in 2024.

The identities of the victims were circulating on social media Wednesday, although authorities had not released their names. The daughter was in her early teens, according to people who knew her.
City Manager Eric Batista, Mayor Joseph M. Petty, Chief Paul Saucier and Worcester Superintendent Rachel Monárrez released a joint statement on the killings Wednesday afternoon. The statement confirmed the daughter was a local student.

"Collectively, we ask for patience and privacy on behalf of the victims’ family and friends and for the Worcester Public Schools who are grieving the loss of a student. An act of such violence has no place in our city," the group said.
