Multiple Road Closures In Worcester With Dueling Road Races
The Girls on the Run 5K and Firefighter 6K will both take place Sunday morning in Worcester.
WORCESTER, MA — Worcester police are advising drivers to watch for road closures and other delays with two road races taking place in the downtown area Sunday morning.
The Girls on the Run 5K will begin at 8 a.m. outside the front entrance to Polar Park. There won't be any road closures associated with the race, but expect participants to be present throughout Kelley Square, and along Francis McGrath Boulevard, Main Street, Foster Street, Mercantile Street, Church Street and Green Street.
The Worcester Firefighters 6K will include road races, and will revolve around a block party at Institute Park. The race begins at 11:30 a.m., but police will begin road closures at 9 a.m. starting with Salisbury Street between Grove Street and Park Avenue. Other streets in the area may also be blocked, including Humboldt, Faraday, Institute, North, Sagamore, Tuckerman, Dead and Wachusett.

The race is held each year in memory of the six Worcester firefighters killed in the cold storage warehouse fire in 1999, and the firefighters who have died in the line of duty since: Christopher Roy, Jason Menard and Jon Davies.
