"Name A Snowplow" Contest Winning Names Announced
Worcester's students submitted clever names for the "Name a Snowplow" contest, and now the winners have been selected.
WORCESTER, MA - The next four names of Worcester's snowplows are here, and each one is "punnier" than the last.
In collaboration with Worcester Public Schools, the department of public works had the city's residents vote on which name, carefully crafted by classrooms across Worcester, would be best suited for snowplows.
The winners and the classrooms that came up with them are:

- Scoop Dogg (Mrs. Stephanie Trainor's sixth grade class, Francis J. McGrath Elementary School)
- Sleetwood Mac (Ms. Victoria Alexander's grades K-two SAIL class, Norrback Avenue School)
- William Scrapespeare (Ms. Aimee Kewley's grades nine-12 class, Burncoat High School)
- Snow More Mr. Ice Guy (Ms. Sydney Lamothe's grades nine-10 class, University Park Campus School).
"Congratulations to our Worcester Public School students on a great contest," said City Manager Eric D. Batista. "Your enthusiasm and imaginative names you submitted were inspiring to see."
The winning classrooms will be recognized at the city council meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 21. As part of their winnings for their creativity, they'll get a photo-op next to the trucks.

"Our Worcester Public Schools scholars never fail to impress me with their creativity and humor," said Dr. Rachel H. Monárrez, the superintendent of WPS. "The winning snowplow names are not only clever, but a fun way to engage in English language arts lessons."
