State Police Investigate Officer-Involved Shooting In Worcester

The incident occurred on Strathmore Street on Friday.

WORCESTER, MA — Police were on the scene after gunshots were fired on Strathmore Street on Friday morning in Worcester.

Massachusetts State Police were investigating a non-fatal officer-involved shooting that happened in Worcester on Friday morning, according to the Worcester County District Attorney's office. A deputy U.S. Marshal shot and wounded Chris Betances, who was the target of an arrest warrant.

The officer shot Betances,23, when he was trying to flee in a vehicle and drive toward the officers.

Betances was taken to the hospital, where he remains in stable condition. He was arraigned on Friday and is expected to return to court on August 29.
