Quinsigamond Community College Gets $106K For Personal Care Assistant Program
The funding is part of Gov. Healey's TRAIN grants.
WORCESTER, MA — A community college in Worcester was recently awarded a large grant for a workforce development program.
Quinsigamond Community College received a $106,183 state grant for its Personal Care Assistant program. The funding is part of approximately $1.5 million in Training Resources and Internship Network grants awarded by Gov. Healey.
The PCA program trains 30 individuals as personal care assistants to get started on a healthcare career. After finishing the program, students are prepared to work in entry-level positions in private residences, group homes, and assisted living facilities, and can help elderly, ill, or disabled clients.

“This grant allows us to expand access to meaningful healthcare careers and meet a growing need in our community,” said Kathleen O’Connor, QCC's Director of Workforce Development Operations. “Personal Care Aides play a vital role in supporting older adults and individuals with disabilities, and demand for qualified caregivers continues to rise. Our PCA program not only prepares students for immediate employment but also opens doors to long-term career growth.”

The program emphasizes hands-on training. All students will receive 80 hours of classroom learning and 16 hours of experiential learning through internships with employer partners.
Since 2016, QCC has received over $1.4 million in TRAIN grants, according to the school.
