Retired Worcester Police Chief Gary Gemme Has Died

WORCESTER, MA — Worcester is mourning the loss of a leader in the community.

Garry Gemme, a U.S. Navy Veteran who served as police chief in Worcester for 12 years, has died, according to a news release.

Gemme's almost 33-year tenure began in the late 1970s and ended with his retirement in 2016. He was Worcester's longest-serving police chief in Worcester since World War II, according to the release.

The Worcester Police Department has not yet shared his cause of death.

“Gary Gemme was a dedicated public servant who committed his life to the city of Worcester and its citizens,” said Chief Paul Saucier. “His contributions will never be forgotten.”
