WORCESTER, MA — A Worcester man arrested this week in California has agreed to return to Massachusetts to face charges over the shooting deaths of Chasity Nunez and her daughter, Zella, 11.

Dejan Belnavis, 27, was arrested Monday in San Diego after a nearly week-long interstate manhunt. Police believe Belnavis and another man opened fire on Chasity Nunez' car on March 5 along Lisbon Street in the Columbus Park neighborhood.

Prosecutors in Worcester County were unsure if Belnavis would fight extradition. During a court appearance in San Diego Friday, he signed a waiver of extradition, according to a spokesperson for the Worcester County District Attorney's Office.

A second suspect, Karol Mangual, 28, was arrested last week in Worcester. He was initially arrested on an armed assault to murder charge, but prosecutors sought to charge him with murder this week.

Both Belnavis and Mangual were tracked to Hartford immediately following the shooting along Lisbon Street. U.S. Marshals in Maine and Rhode Island, plus San Diego police, helped make the Belnavis arrest.
