Thu Nguyen Indicates They Will Not Seek Council Again
Thu Nguyen, the first openly-nonbinary person elected to city council, seemed to confirm they will not be seeking office again.

WORCESTER, MA - Councilor-at-Large Thu Nguyen indicated they will not be seeking reelection.
According to a Facebook post from their campaign page, Nguyen, the first openly-nonbinary person to be elected in Massachusetts, said they will not be running again.
"As most folks now I won't be running again," Nguyen said. The post comes on the heels of a turbulent few months for not just them, but the entirety of Worcester's city council. In the opening weeks of 2025, Nguyen announced they would take a hiatus from the council. They alleged Mayor Joseph Petty and several other colleagues of LGBTQ+ discrimination.

Statements were traded, and eventually Nguyen announced they will not be returning to council indefinitely.
Now, it appears Nguyen has rubber-stamped this saga with an unofficial ruling. Nguyen did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
