Toomey Responds To Nguyen's Hiatus Statement
Toomey, Worcester City Councilor At-Large, responded to fellow Councilor At-Large Thu Nguyen following their statement earlier today.

WORCESTER, MA - City Councilor At-Large Kathleen Toomey responded to fellow councilor Thu Nguyen's statement regarding their hiatus and alleged LGBTQ+ discrimination and toxicity from the council.
"With regard to Councilor Nguyen's statement, early on when the Councilor was elected, I did make an honest error in addressing the councilor and my have done so a few times, for which I apologized," Toomey wrote on X.
In a statement shared across multiple social platforms, Nguyen said that Mayor Joseph Petty and Toomey both misgendered them, and District 2 Councilor Candy Mero-Carlson had referred to them as "it" multiple times.

Toomey and Mero-Carlson did not immediately respond to requests to comment, and the mayor's office did acknowledge the request but has not provided a statement yet.
"I have been mindful to address the Councilor respectfully in the manner in which they identify over the past few years no differently or less respectfully than I address any of our colleagues," Toomey said.
