Warning About Homemade Explosives After 3 Found In Worcester

One of the devices exploded before two others were located nearby, according to Worcester Country District Attorney Joseph Early Jr.

WORCESTER, MA — The Worcester County District Attorney’s Office is warning local residents about possible homemade explosive devices in the community after three were found in Worcester last month — including one that detonated.

Police found the first device on June 19 after it exploded along Madison Street in Worcester. Investigators found fireworks, a butane gas can and "projectile materials" near the explosion. Two similar devices built inside of coolers were found in Worcester around the same time.

"As authorities continue to investigate, they encourage the public to be mindful of unattended items, particularly coolers. Do not attempt to tamper with these items. Instead, call the authorities immediately. Members of the public who see suspicious items are asked to call 911," the DA's office said in a news release.
