Worcester County DA Awarded For Work Addressing Addiction

Veterans, Inc. presented DA Early with their Behavioral Health of Spirit Award.

WORCESTER, MA — Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early was awarded for his work to address addiction.

Veterans, Inc. presented DA Early with their Behavioral Health of Spirit Award. The award recognizes his leadership in programs and access to addiction treatment.

"This recognition reflects the hard work of all the hard workers in our office and also our many treatment providers, veterans' advocates, community leaders, and the citizens who believe that recovery, compassion, empathy, and justice can go hand in hand," said DA Early. "Together, we're proving that early intervention and strong support networks can change lives and strengthen public safety."

More than 10 years ago, DA Early formed the Central Mass. Opioid Task Force, which now has more than 800 members. He also launched the Critical Incident Management Systems in 2020, which allows police throughout the county to track overdose incidents and follow up with survivors.

Early has also helped identify and support children who have experienced a traumatic event, and received federal grant funding for programs that help students who have experienced a trauma, such as viewing a drug overdose or violence.
