Worcester Lake To Undergo Algae Treatment This Week
The city is urging residents to stay out of the water during the treatment.

WORCESTER, MA — A popular lake in Worcester will undergo a preventative algae treatment this week.
Indian Lake will be treated with algaecide copper sulfate on Thursday. The city advises residents not to go swimming and to keep their boats and pets out of the water.
There is no threat of harmful algae exposure, according to the city. The treatment is solely preventative. The copper sulfate treatment is used to control the growth of cyanobacteria, a toxic blue-green algae.

The treatment comes amid dozens of harmful algae blooms in lakes and ponds throughout the state.
Lake Chauncy in Westborough was closed in late July due to cyanobacteria in the water. It is unclear if the beach has since reopened.
