Worcester Man Found Guilty Of Shooting Friend In Head: DA

The 30-year-old was accused of shooting Joshua Lopez in 2020.

WORCESTER, MA — The trial has ended for the Worcester man who was accused of shooting a friend in the head five years ago.

Leroy L. Thompson Jr. was found guilty of second-degree murder, according to the Worcester County District Attorney's Office. The 30-year-old was accused of shooting Joshua Lopez, who was sitting in the backseat of a car on July 4, 2020. There was also a child in the vehicle, according to the DA.

The Telegram and Gazette reports that the incident was over a discrepancy in a restaurant bill.

Thompson will now be sentenced on Sept. 24 in Worcester Superior Court.

"I want to thank the men and women of the Worcester Police Department for their steadfast commitment to all victims in order to get closure for their families,” said Worcester Police Chief Paul Saucier.
