Worcester Native, Red Sox Catcher Switches Roles

He spent 10 years as a catcher for the Red Sox in the '80s, and now he's got a new role within the Major League team.

WORCESTER, MA - A Worcester native who used to play for the Boston Red Sox has a new role within the organization, the team announced Thursday.

Rich Gedman, 65, of Worcester was a catcher for the Sox from 1980-1990. The team announced he has been named a Player Development Hitting Advisor, moving up from being the WooSox's hitting coach.
