Worcester Police Chief Addresses Violent Crime: Report

WORCESTER, MA - Interim Police Chief Paul B. Saucier said that despite Worcester’s 2024 homicide number being the highest since 1986, the number of shootings, both fatal and nonfatal, is lower than last year’s, the Telegram & Gazette reported.

There were six homicides in 2023 and 16 in 2024. The 32 combined fatal and nonfatal shootings this year were down from last year’s 38. City Manager Eric D. Batista affirmed that Worcester’s violence is unacceptable and that the city is greatly concerned no matter the decrease.
