Teen Boy Arrested In Worcester Shooting, Police Say

Worcester police took a 14-year-old male into custody in connection with a Dec. 23 shooting, the agency announced.

WORCESTER, MA - Worcester police have arrested a 14-year-old boy after their investigation into a shooting on Mount Vernon Street last week showed "probable cause," the police department announced Monday.

The shooting was reported around 6:20 p.m. on Dec. 23 via a ShotSpotter activation, according to police. Police headed out to the scene to investigate and were told afterward that a 25-year-old man who had been shot was at an area hospital.

"After an investigation, detectives developed probable cause for the arrest of a fourteen-year-old male," a Worcester Police Department news release said.

The teen was ultimately arrested on Saturday on suspicion of the following charges: armed assault to murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without an FID card and discharging a firearm within 500 Feet of a dwelling.

Additional details surrounding the shooting were not immediately available.
