Worcester Public Library Giving Away Books For Classrooms
The library will hold a book giveaway for local school teachers to bolster their classes' lineup of literature.
WORCESTER, MA - The Worcester Public Library (WPL) is inviting elementary school teachers from the town’s schools to a free book giveaway on Tuesday, Jan. 7 2025 from 4 to 7 p.m. at its downtown location (3 Salem Sq.).
Supporting teachers and their classrooms is always a good cause. Providing youths with new books is one way to keep reading and engagement strong. The librarians at WPL have been championing that cause for years, and just after the New Year they’ll do it again.
“We are thrilled to support Worcester Public School teachers with this event,” said Angela Bennett, deputy director of youth services at WPL. “By providing access to high-quality, diverse books, we hope to inspire young readers, foster social-emotional learning, and help build classroom libraries that reflect our community.”

Most of the books are heavy on social-emotional learning and independent reading. While reading is important for children, learning is also just as key. There are even some titles in Spanish, Portuguese and Vietnamese.
But the book exchange is not the only component. WPL will also provide opportunities to sign up for a library card, tours of the newly renovated children’s room and meet-and-greets with Worcester’s community literacy partners.
