WORCESTER, MA — A new citywide art project is coming to Worcester this summer, with the Worcester Cultural Coalition seeking artists to decorate drab utility boxes.

The city will accept proposals from artists through June 25 who submit works of art on the theme, "Worcester's Rich and Diverse Community." The cultural coalition will provide funding for each WooBox Art Project up to $750.

"The theme for the project encourages artists to create designs that reflect the city's diversity, highlight its rich history, and envision its future. Applicants are encouraged to explore their creativity and propose innovative ideas that capture the spirit of Worcester," the cultural coalition said in a news release.

The project is open to artists, residents and community groups with priority given to Worcester-based artists and organizations. Applicants can submit up to three designs, and each design must be "free from derogatory imagery, political assertions, or advertising," according to the city.

Artists can submit proposals online, or drop them off at the Cultural Development Office at Worcester City Hall. The city will accept applications through June 25 at 5 p.m. Find more details on the WooBox Art Project webpage.
