Worcester's Sheriff Office and The Friendly House Host Annual Food Drive

The two teamed up and donated over 80,000 pounds of food.

Worcester County Sheriff Lewis G. Evangelidis along with Friendly House Executive Director Gordon Hargrove announced the conclusion to the overwhelmingly successful Worcester County Sheriff’s Office 11th Annual Food Drive. In all the Sheriff’s Food Drive was a tremendous success collecting over 80,000 pounds in donated food items and Thanksgiving turkeys to be distributed by the Friendly House of Worcester to over 1,000 local families in need for the holidays.

“It’s always a pleasure to partner with the The Friendly House, WPI Fraternity Lambda Chi Alpha as well as all of our community partners for the Sheriff’s Annual Food Drive. With the holiday season upon us, it is extremely important to do all we can to help those who may be less fortunate.” Evangelidis continued “The Sheriff’s Office Annual Food Drive has a great tradition of giving back and this year over 80,000 pounds of donated food items were collected which will provide a wonderful meal to over 1,000 local families in need during this holiday season.”

“We can not thank Sheriff Evangelidis enough for his tremendous support of the Annual Food Drive and for his support of The Friendly House. This year’s food drive will help so many of our families with a substantial meal for the holidays. We look forward to partnering with the Sheriff & WPI Fraternity Lambda Chi Alpha every year on this wonderful annual event that benefits so many in our community.” said Friendly House Executive Director Gordon Hargrove.

Other partners in this year’s Worcester County Sheriff’s Office 11th Annual Food Drive include Price Chopper, Worcester County Food Bank, WPI Fraternity Lambda Chi Alpha, Fallon Healthcare, United Health Care, Worcester Academy, David Gibbs & Family, private donors, Charter TV, WTAG and Harr Toyota who also donated hundreds of new winter coats.

In addition, Worcester County Sheriff Lewis G. Evangelidis provided inmate assistance from the Sheriff’s Community Service Program to help unload truckloads of donated food items and frozen turkeys at the Friendly House.
