Wrentham police said Alex Rodriguez, of Easton, abandoned five kittens in a crate on Interstate 495.

WRENTHAM, MA — An Easton man abandoned five kittens in a crate on Interstate 495 in Wrentham, police announced Thursday. Alex Rodriguez, 32, was charged with five counts of animal cruelty. The 4-week-old kittens survived the ordeal.
The incident happened May 29. Good Samaritans saw the animals and called for help, police said. The kittens were placed in a local animal shelter then placed in a foster home. They were dubbed the "I-495 5."
Police said they tracked down Rodriguez after several people who had been trying to adopt the kittens from him saw a police Facebook post about the incident and came forward.
