Massachusetts State Police said a drunk-driving checkpoint will be held somewhere in Norfolk County May 11.

Massachusetts State Police will conduct a drunk-driving checkpoint somewhere in Norfolk County Friday night. The roadblock will be held the night of May 11 and stretch into the early hours of Saturday. The exact location and time frame of the checkpoint were not divulged, per state police policy.

"The purpose is to further educate the motoring public and strengthen the public's awareness to the need of detecting and removing those motorists who operate under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs from our roadways," State Police Colonel Kerry Gilpin said in a statement. "It will be operated during varied hours, the selection of vehicles will not be arbitrary, safety will be assured, and any inconveniences to motorists will be minimized with advance notice to reduce fear and anxiety."

The effort is funded with a state grant.
