High Winds Wreak Havoc In Wrentham

Wrentham police report trees down and damaged wires due to winds that knocked out power to thousands in southeastern Massachusetts.

WRENTHAM. MA — Wrentham police reported damage throughout the town Friday night as trees and wires came down in the fierce winds that knocked out to more than 60,000 residents of southeastern Massachusetts. Police Chief Bill McGrath reported a tree crashed into a house, and another into a car, amid the damage.

"Right now we beat Chicago!" McGrath posted on social media. "'Wrentham the Windy Town' is falling down!"

As of 7 p.m. National Grid reported 323 outages in southeastern Massachusetts affecting 65,945 customers.

Winds reached more 70 miles per hour in the state in causing widespread damage.
