Wrentham Announces Opening Of Jane D'Amico Playground

The playground is located at the William A. Rice Recreation Complex.

WRENTHAM, MA—The Town of Wrentham announced the opening of the new Jane D'Amico Playground on Monday, located at the 54 Emerald Street William A. Rice Recreation Complex.

According to a press release from Town Administrator Kevin Sweet, the playground is named after Jane D'Amico, who served as a member of the Recreation Commission for 20 years and a fundraising coordinator for the Rice Complex. A dedication ceremony was held on October 31.

"Jane is one of the original advocates for a public playground in the Town of Wrentham 20 years ago," said Recreation Director Jeff Plympton. "She has also been very active on other committees in town, such as the Open Space Committee and Community Preservation Committee. She's the type of volunteer that every town should have."

The playground, funded by $445,315 in Community Preservation Act funds that were approved at a town meeting last year, is located near the concession stands and soccer fields at the recreation complex and adds a place for children ages two to 12-plus to play safely.

The overall cost of the project was reduced due to a $100,000 in-kind donation from Kompan, the playground equipment maker and installer, and is expected to last 20 years.

"I want to thank the Community Preservation Committee for their support of this project and the Wrentham Recreation Commission for all the work they did to make it a reality," said Sweet. "The playground is a terrific addition to the Rice Complex, which not only offers recreation opportunities for youths in town but also serves to preserve 80 acres of Wrentham land as open space for residents to enjoy for years to come."
