Liberal Group Blasts Trump On Coronavirus Effort In Michigan
Priorities Michigan has begun a campaign pointing out what it calls the president's lackluster performance with the coronavirus in Michigan.
Priorities Michigan has engaged in a Twitter campaign to point out what it calls President Donald Trump’s lackluster performance in addressing the COVID-19 crisis.
“Whether they’re working on the front lines saving lives or staying at home, Michigan voters recognize that Donald Trump’s failed leadership made this crisis worse than it had to be, putting all our lives at further risk,” said Annika Doner, Priorities Michigan outreach director. “Sharing the stories of how Michiganders have been impacted, and why they’re frustrated with Trump’s chaotic ongoing response to the virus, is critical to holding him accountable and protecting our health now and in the future.”

Priorities Michigan is affiliated with Priorities USA, a progressive-leaning organization aimed toward defeating Trump this fall. Trump over the last several weeks has questioned the need to fulfill some requests of state governors related to COVID-19, including Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, who he’s frequently criticized. States have asked for federal help in acquiring personal protection equipment such as masks, test kits, ventilators and other needs.
In Michigan, the state reports 39,262 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 3,567 deaths.

One of Priorities Michigan’s selfie video tweets features Rachel, a Dearborn nurse, who expresses her frustration over Trump’s comments.
“Whether you work at a small hospital or a large hospital system, you have more than two ventilators,” Rachel said. “I’m not sure where he would come up with this idea. It just goes to show he, number one, doesn’t know health care supplies we have in the hospital, and also doesn’t respect our opinion of what we need.”
After Trump criticized the World Health Organization last week for what he called he called lack of preparedness for COVID-19 and announced that he would pull the United States’ subsidy from the international organization, Ashleigh, a seventh grade girl from Flint, was featured on another Priorities Michigan video selfie tweet. Ashleigh said she was tired of Trump’s behavior.
“I wish the president would do his job and help our governor fix this,” she said.
