MI Man Shot, Killed After Cutting Officer With Knife: Police

Police said the incident happened Monday during a traffic stop involving a stolen car.

ALPENA TOWNSHIP, MI — A man was shot and killed Monday after cutting an officer with a knife in northern Michigan, according to police.

Officers stopped a car that was reported stolen on Grant Street near Lawn Street in Alpena Township, according to police.

An officer approached the car, and that's when the man, who was inside the reported stolen car, pulled out a knife and cut the officer, according to police.

The officer then shot the man, according to police.

The 35-year-old Alpena man was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died, according to police.

The officer was also taken to a nearby hospital, where he was treated for a cut to his hand, according to police.

Two officers from the Alpena Police Department were placed on paid administrative leave until officials complete their investigation.
