MI Man Killed Along I-75 While Helping Friend Change Flat Tire: Police

Police said the man was helping a friend change a flat tire along the freeway when he was struck by a pickup truck.

SAGINAW, MI — A 22-year-old man died Tuesday night after he was hit by a pickup truck while helping a friend change a tire along Interstate 75 near Saginaw, according to Michigan State Police.

The crash happened at 7:10 p.m. Tuesday on southbound Interstate 75 near Baker Road near Saginaw, according to police.

The 22-year-old Saginaw man drove to the scene to help his friend change a flat tire, according to police.

The man was in between their vehicles on the shoulder of the freeway changing the tire when a 2015 Chevrolet pickup truck crashed into both vehicles and the 22-year-old man, according to police.

The Saginaw man was taken to a nearby hospital where he died, according to police.

The driver of the pickup truck, an 80-year-old Bay City man, was also taken to a nearby hospital where he was treated for minor injuries, according to police.

It was immediately unclear if the elderly man will face charges in connection with the crash.

Michigan State Police are continuing to investigate the crash.
