This Small MI Town Has One Of The Nation's Best New Year’s Eve Ball Drop​s: Ranking

A small Michigan town has one of the nation's best New Year’s Eve ball drops, according to a new ranking.

Ludington, on the Lake Michigan shoreline, came in as the No. 5 best spot for the nation's best ball drop on New Year’s Eve, a new USA Today ranking found.

"Michigan embraces the holiday spirit each year with Ludington's New Year's Eve Ball Drop, an event that takes place on the eastern shore of Lake Michigan," USA Today wrote. "This festival invites Michiganders and visitors alike to kick back and enjoy wine and local craft beer as they marvel at colorful fireworks and a ball drop stage that's clad in thousands of flashing lights."

Ludington’s ball drops at midnight at the intersection of Ludington Avenue and James Street. The event is accompanied by fireworks.

The event, which has been running for 16 years, draws roughly 10,000 each year.

Ludington was the only Michigan town to make the list.
