Detroit City Council Vote Will Keep Packham Golf Club Open
A new management company will operate all three municipal golf clubs, including Rackham in Huntington Woods.

Rackham Golf Club will remain open and city-owned, officials say. After deadlocking in a pervious vote, Detroit City Council voted 5-4 Tuesday to award a $180,000, 2-year contract with Signet Golf Associates II, who will professionally manage the facilities.
After city council deadlocked in early March, Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan floated the idea of closing the clubs and of selling Rackham Golf Club, owned by Detroit but located in Huntington Woods, to private parties. This move is very unlikely, because the golf club was deeded to Detroit in the will of a prominent local lawyer, and the rules of the gift state that it must either remain a public golf facility or revert to the heirs of the original owners.
Signet Golf Associates II, Inc., headquartered in North Carolina, will run the golf courses and maintain the links and buildings through 2020.
