Learn About Local Boy Scout Troops at Open House

Has your son ever wanted to join Boy Scouts? Then, you'll want to check out the Boy Scouts open house scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday at the Our Shepherd Lutheran Church of Birmingham.

"Snow sports, biking, camping, swimming and archery are some of the outdoor activities that kids love," says local parent Tricia Meade. "In scouting, youth engage in these and other outdoor adventures, and they enjoy many indoor experiences too. While having fun with friends. Scouts are learning the leadership and self-management skills they need for lifetime success."

During the open house, area families can learn about Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts opportunities for boys from first through 12th grade, as well as Venture Scout opportunities for boys and girls in high school.

The open house will feature displays, refreshments, a presentation and an opportunity to talk with leaders from several area scout groups. Communities represented include troops from Berkley, Birmingham, Beverly Hills, Bloomfield Hills, Clawson, Madison Heights, Royal Oak and Troy.

According to Meade, prospective scouts and their families will learn about following activities available to local scouts:

• Pinewood Derby model car races
• Rocket launches
• Camping
• High adventure activities
• Community service projects
