Viewfinder: The Trees Have Eyes
Put upcoming art fairs on the calendar if you would like to hunt for your own arboreal art.
Whimsical tree art is cropping up around town, creating a world of fairies and faces for those with a keen eye and fertile imagination.
The decorations are available for purchase online, but you also could go on the hunt for them at the following upcoming art fairs.
Ford Arts, Beats & Eats: 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sept. 2-4, and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sept. 5 in downtown Royal Oak. The 14th annual Labor Day weekend festival "will offer more than 200 performances on 10 stages, a highly ranked Juried Fine Arts Show, local restaurants with some of the finest cuisine in metro Detroit and international, regional and local attractions," according to its website.

46th annual Art & Apples Festival: 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 9; 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 10, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Rochester Municipal Park. "The Art & Apples Festival is Michigan's second largest juried fine art festival with an average attendance of 125,000 festival-goers and 285+ artists from across the country," the event's website says. "The festival showcases ... national entertainment acts, a free Kids Art Zone, Activity Zone, three food courts and more."
Funky Ferndale Art Fair: 4-8 p.m. Sept. 16; 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sept. 17, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 18 at the corner of 9 Mile Road and Woodward Avenue in Ferndale. "More than 120 artists from 22 states will gather on Nine Mile Road for the eighth annual Funky Ferndale Art Fair," the event's website reads. "The focus of this show is a bit edgier or funkier than most. Ferndale has it’s own eclectic vibe and the artwork reflects this."

Northville Art Market: Runs noon to 5 p.m. Sept. 17, and noon to 4 p.m. Sept. 18 in downtown Northville. Approximately 50 artists will participate in the event, which is part of the city's Victorian Festival and serves as a fundraiser for the Northville Arts Commission.
