5 Things To Know This Week: Presidents Day, Eton Academy Open House

1. Monday is President's Day: Monday is Presidents Day, which means banks and other government offices around town are closed today. 2. Eton Academy open house: Are you thinking of Birmingham's Eton Academy for your child? The school will be holding an open house Tuesday from 9 a.m.-11 a.m. Come see Eton students in action, talk to teachers and learn about the Eton approach to learning. RSVP beforehand online or by calling 248-642-1150.
3. Learn about the best in children's literature: Birmingham's Storytellers Guild will be discussing this year's winners of the Caldecott Medal, Newberry Award and more in the country's best children's literature. Connie Ilmer of Baldwin Public Library will lead the discussion and provide a reading list for all attendees. The meeting will be held at The Community House from 9:30-11:30 a.m.
4. See 'The Lorax' with the family: Need something to do this week when the kids are at home? Baldwin Public Library will be hosting a viewing of The Lorax at 2 p.m. Friday. The event is free and open to all kids and families.
5. Hope for Humanity discussion Friday: The Community House and the Senior Mens Club of Birmingham will host Najah Bazzy this Friday to discuss Islam, equality, human rights and interfaith dialogue. The talk begins at 11:15 a.m. and is free.
