Automated Sorting Machine at Baldwin Public Library Live

The Baldwin Public Library went live with an automated sorting machine in early May.  The automated sorter checks items in automatically as they are returned and sorts the items into broad categories.

Everyone is invited to see the sorter in action through a window in the Library’s front entrance lobby. A video showing the sorter in operation can be viewed at www.baldwinlib.org/sorter

“It’s quite a wonder to see the sorter in action. Kids seem to be especially excited to peer through the window to see the sorting machine do its work,” said Matt Church, Associate Director.

“This capital project was pursued through the support of the Baldwin Public Library Board and the Birmingham City Commission. The sorter allows Baldwin to use its staff more effectively and will make the Library’s processes more prompt and efficient,” said Doug Koschik, Library Director.

In order for the process to work smoothly, it is helpful if library users insert one item at a time. Users should wait for the green light before inserting the next item.
