HUMAN RESOURCES INTERNSHIP
The Human Resources internship is intended to provide the Intern with an opportunity to gain experience in a professional and diverse work environment in order to prepare for a career in the human resources or management profession.

The Intern is expected to add value to the operations of the City’s Human Resources Department by applying the knowledge gained through related coursework and past work experience.
Under the supervision of the Human Resources Department, the Intern will complete a variety of functions to assist the department in its operations. Work assignments will include completing routine department functions and assisting in recruitment and selection, labor relations, and benefits administration activities.
Requirements:
- Junior, Senior, or Graduate level students enrolled in Business/Public Administration, Human Resources, Management, or other related programs
- Candidates must be able to demonstrate excellent writing, interpersonal, communication, customer service, and analytical skills
- Experience with Windows-based computer systems and common office software applications are required.
Hours, Pay
- Up to 30 hours a week, must be flexible
- $12 per hour

MANAGEMENT INTERNSHIP
Under the general supervision of the Human Resources Department, the Management Intern will assist in a variety of City operations involving multiple City departments.
The Management Intern will perform research and analysis and develop recommendations related to areas such as project management, personnel administration, community programs, and public services.
This internship is designed to prepare the intern for entry into the public administration (or similar) profession with a diverse work experience in a professional environment and to add value to the operations of the City of Birmingham by applying knowledge gained by the student through relevant coursework.
Requirements:
- Junior, Senior, or Graduate level students in Business Administration, Public Administration, Management, or other related fields, are encouraged to apply.
- Ability to work independently under general policy directions and exercise independent judgment when appropriate.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and well developed PC skills.
Hours, Pay
- Up to 30 hours a week
- $12 per hour
