The Birmngham-based Coldwell Banker Weir Manuel (CBWM Realtors) presented Children’s Hospital of Michigan Foundation with iPads, a MacBook Pro and other peripherals to benefit patients at DMC Children’s Hospital of Michigan. The devices will be used by the hospital’s Child Life Services staff to assist patients before, during and after treatment.
Jean-Jacques Bouchard, child life specialist at DMC Children’s Hospital of Michigan, was excited about the donation. “Currently we use iPads to teach children about their care, help divert their attention during painful procedures, make music videos or just let them play games. I find new uses for the iPads every day.” Bouchard also says the devices help patients in isolation keep in touch with family and friends.
The donations are the result of CBWM’s Building Bridges pilot program, spearheaded by Realtor Jennifer Zachary. Building Bridges’ mission is to build bridges of awareness through various projects and fundraising efforts in CBWM’s service areas in Macomb, Oakland, Washtenaw and Wayne counties.
CBWM Chief Executive Officer Kelly Sweeney was overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from agents, employees and business partners: “We asked for donations at a recent awards event, and in one night were able to not only meet our fundraising goal but surpass it. We are proud to support the mission of the Child Life Services Department and all they do to provide quality care for the patients at Children’s Hospital of Michigan.”
