BIRMINGHAM, MI — At this point, nearly every person in the galaxy is aware that Donald Trump was elected President. But what about the rest of the election results in your town? Here are a couple Birmingham/Oakland County election highlights:
1. Birmingham voted against bringing mass transit to Metro Detroit - but just barely. The Regional Transit Authority millage would have funded a history-making mass transit system connecting Oakland, Macomb, Washtenaw and Wayne counties. Oakland County ultimately defeated the proposal with 293,510 "no" votes compared to 292,401 "yes" votes.
2. Birmingham Public Schools are getting a boost. Voters passed a proposal to renew up to 10.9236 mills on property for five years for operating purposes. Vote stats: 76% "yes" and 24% "no."
