Birmingham Public Schools Librarian Chosen To Lead Statewide School Library Organization

A Birmingham Public Schools librarian was chosen to lead the statewide school library organization​​, according to a news release.

BIRMINGHAM, MI — A Birmingham Public Schools librarian was chosen to lead the statewide school library organization, according to a news release.

Librarian Carrie Betts accepted the nomination to be the next president-elect for the Michigan Association for Media in Education, the news release said.

Betts currently works as an elementary library facilitator for Birmingham Public Schools and a school librarian for West Maple School.

Betts will continue in these positions as she goes through the Michigan Association for Media in Education leadership program, including serving as president-elect in 2023, president in 2024 and immediate past president in 2025, the news release said.

"It’s an honor to serve in a leadership capacity on the statewide level and I look forward to continuing my advocacy for all students to have access to effective school library programs," Betts said. "I’m passionate about supporting student success both in Birmingham and throughout Michigan."

Betts recently represented the state at the American Library Association conference in Washington, D.C. where she joined a team of Michigan librarians to present Michigan’s Model School Library Program, the news release said.

"We’re very proud to have Carrie serving on the statewide level where she can share successes from our district, learn from others and advocate for all students," Birmingham Superintendent Dr. Embekka Roberson said. "At BPS, we’re dedicated to providing a world-class education to our students, and offering top-notch library and media programs that play an important role in our students’ academic success."
