Birmingham Teacher Falls In Jeopardy Semi-Final

Birmingham teacher Susannah Nichols lost her semi-final match on Jeopardy!

BIRMINGHAM, MI — Birmingham teacher Susannah Nichols lost her semi-final match on Jeopardy! Teachers Tournament Tuesday. While she answered Final Jeopardy correctly, her total of $12,600 was third in what was the tournament’s last semi-final match.

The two-week tournament started last week and gives teachers across the country a chance to compete for $100,000 and a place in the next "Jeopardy!" Tournament of Champions. Each contestant also receives a $2,500 grant for classroom projects from Farmers Insurance.

Nichols plans to use her $2,500 to purchase works by African-American and American Indian writers. Trebek and Jeopardy are in their 33rd season of syndication.

Nichols led Tuesday’s semi-final after the opening round. The high school English teacher at The Roeper School six of seven questions correctly to finish with $5,200. Nichols answered 8 of 10 questions correctly in the second round, which included categories like TV campuses, Adverbs and Theater, among others.

Final Jeopardy asked contestants what sculpture was created between 1501 - 1504 and had a biography written about it. Nichols answered “David” correctly but wagered just $3,000.
