Confidence After Cancer: A Night of Empowerment & Celebration in Downtown Birmingham

Glam Jail hosts Confidence After Cancer, an evening dedicated to resilience, self-expression, and empowerment for women navigating life beyond breast cancer on Thursday, October 23 from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. The event takes place in its Downtown Birmingham med spa at 200 E. Brown, blending inspiration, education, and community connection in a setting known for its bold aesthetic and supported by a bit of “Playful Luxury.”

Aya Restrepo MS, PA-C, owner of Glam Jail Med Spa, understands how the journey from diagnosis through treatment - and the aftermath - can take a significant toll on a person’s self-confidence.

“It’s difficult to put into words the effect breast cancer has on an individual. The rigorous treatment is difficult enough, but afterward, the reality of a new existence sets in and it can really shake someone’s soul,” according to Restrepo. “This is an important event if you’ve beat breast cancer or have a partner who has. This happy hour-style event is part celebration of life and part crash course in becoming you again ... all while being supported by an amazing group of humans!”

Restrepo recalled one moment that underscored the impact of this work. Patient Ashley Coley’s husband came into the spa, shook her hand, and quietly said, “Thank you. She smiles again.”

For Restrepo, that simple gesture reflected the heart of Glam Jail’s mission, restoring not only outward beauty but also inner confidence and connection. Coley notes, “People tend to think that after breast-cancer treatment, you’re all done, but the second part is just beginning. Cancer feels like a betrayal, especially if you were healthy beforehand. You feel sort of disconnected to your ‘former’ body. I am so grateful for Glam Jail, as Aya helped me appreciate myself and who I am now.”

The evening focuses on restorative therapies for survivors and even offers tips for their partners. Coley will attend and will be available for interviews prior to the event.
