Election Day
After a busy election season in August 2012, there are no local bond issues, proposals or candidates for Birmingham voters to cast ballots for on Tuesday. Enjoy the reprieve!ÂLive Jazz in the Park
The 2013 Birmingham Summer Concerts series continues at 7 p.m. Wednesdaywith a performance by the Metro Jazz Voices. Seating is on the lawn and bring a blanket or lawn chairs are welcome, as are picnics. Call the concert hotline, which will be updated at 5 p.m. on show day, at 248-530-1650 in case of bad weather.
Progressive Flash Mob/Business Crawl
If Jazz isn't your thing, consider taking a stroll along the new-ish businesses in Bloomfield Plaza Wednesday, organized by the Birmingham Bloomfield Chamber of Commerce. The group will start at 4 p.m. at the Great Lakes Coffee Company, and continue in a progressive event through the plaza ending at Bagger Dave's.The event is free.
Babysitting Camp
The Birmingham Public Schools will host Babysitting Camp for local residents 10 and older from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8 at Seaholm High School.ÂParticipants will learn skills for providing care to infants, toddlers and young children, and on how to start their own babysitting business. From emergency procedures and decision making, to diapering and feeding, several topics will be covered in this certified babysitting class from the American Red Cross. Basic first aid and CPR will be taught and practiced on mannequins. Registration is $90 through the Birmingham Community Education website.
Food Truck Party
The summer reading programs at the Baldwin Public Library concludes with a pair of events Thursday. Young readers will celebrate with a Jacques' Tacos Food Truck Party from 1-3 p.m. Jacques' Tacos owner, Jim Mastrangel, will visit to share the food and discuss the food truck business. Summer reading prizes and awards will be announced. The "I Did It Myself!" chocolate reading thank-you for independent readers is scheduled from 2-3 p.m.ÂGet more local news delivered straight to your inbox.
