Joe Muer Seafood To Open In Birmingham Area

The popular Detroit restaurant has chosen to open a location in Bloomfield Hills.

BIRMINGHAM, MI — One of the most popular restaurants in downtown Detroit is coming to the Birmingham area. Joe Muer Seafood will open Monday with a wide assortment of dinner items including oysters, lobster, crab legs, sushi and more. The venture will be located at the Kingsley Inn Hotel on Woodward Avenue near Long Lake Road in Bloomfield Hills.

The original Joe Muer Seafood Detroit location was on Gratiot Avenue, but since 2012 the restaurant has been in the Renaissance Center, according to a Birmingham Eccentric report. If Yelp reviewers are accurate, suburban diners are in for a treat. The Detroit location rates four out of five stars on the site and patrons are effuse in their praise.

“Whether you settle for sushi or the Dover Sole, you can't go wrong,” wrote Marcus E of Detroit in a May 11 review on Yelp. He gave the restaurant five out of five stars. “The views are best on the riverside (obvi) but the food is good anywhere. I've been four times now, and they haven't as much as overcooked a white fish.”

Joe Muer Seafood Bloomfield Hills was designed by Ron & Roman of Birmingham, the Eccentric reported. It will feature a 1,000-gallon saltwater aquarium, full wine rack, private dining options and two outdoor patios. The Vicari group also owns and operates several Andiamo restaurants in metropolitan Detroit.

“It's hard to find a good lobster roll outside of Maine, so this is the place to go in Detroit for one,” wrote Adrienne A. in a May 11 Yelp review. “It's $22 but appears to have a whole lobster in it. The lobster salad is plentiful and overflows the sandwich. In fact, there was so much I couldn't finish it. It tastes very fresh and the fries that come with it are good too.”
