An 18-year-old woman from Michigan visiting New York City with her family was killed on May 18 when an out-of-control car careened up a Times Square sidewalk Thursday, smashing into crowds of pedestrians before crashing, police and witnesses said. Twenty-two others were injured. Mayor Bill de Blasio said terrorism was not thought to have been involved.

Emagine's Restaurant Switch Irks Birmingham Leaders

Owners of the Emagine Palladium theater in downtown Birmingham have raised the ire of city leaders over changes to its restaurant. Emagine Entertainment replaced the Ironwood Grill with β€œFour Story Burger” last year, but failed to notify the city of the move in a timely fashion. Emagine CEO Paul Glantz failed to attend meetings in April and earlier in May to resolve the issue.

Metro Detroit Power Outage: When Will Lights Come On?

At least 38,000 customers across Metro Detroit lost power on May 18 as wind speeds whipped to as high as 50 mph. DTE Energy said it would wait until the winds die down before beginning repairs. The National Weather Service’s high wind warning was set to expire at 8 p.m. Plymouth reported a high rate of outages in an area near Ann Arbor Trail and Beck Road, among other areas.

Detroit Man Ran Michigan-To-Massachusetts Sex Ring: Prosecutors

A Detroit man accused of running an underaged prostitution ring from Michigan to Massachusetts has been charged under that state’s new human trafficking law. Melando Yaphet Streety, 34, has been charged in Middlesex Superior Court with multiple felonies related to an operation prosecutors said exploited girls under the age of 18.

Woman Accused Of Stealing Turns Herself In

A 66-year-old Belleville woman accused of stealing items from two downtown Plymouth stores has turned herself in and Facebook may have played a role in her decision. The woman, who is currently free pending charges from the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office, turned herself in on May 15 to Plymouth Police. A video of the incident allegedly showing the Belleville woman at Home Sweet Home was posted a few days after owner Carol Uber filed a police report.
