Papa Joe's Employee Caught Stealing Meat in Birmingham

The 61-year-old employee tried to leave with more than $150 worth of meat wrapped around her midsection, police said.


Officers with the Birmingham Police Department cited an employee from Papa Joe's Gourmet Market & Catering for embezzlement after she was caught trying to sneak out with meat wrapped around her midsection last week, reports said. 

A supervisor confronted the employee while she was getting ready to leave the building at about 1 p.m. Dec. 18 because it appeared there was something hidden under her shirt. The employee, a 61-year-old Sterling Heights woman admitted to taking a whole beef tenderloin and wrapping it around her midsection. The meat was valued at $154, reports said.

Embezzlement by an employee of less than $200 is a misdemeanor punishable by fines and up to 93 days in jail.
