Thrift Shop Fashion Show to Benefit South Oakland Shelter
Rosie O'Grady's in Ferndale hosts a fund-raising event to benefit the South Oakland Shelter (SOS) on July 30 at 6:30 p.m. The primary goals are to raise funds and collect clothing for clients. Just a $5 contribution or donation of gently used clothing gets you in with a SOS wristband.Children's Authors Visit
Spend the afternoon with three nationally recognized Michigan area children's authors from 1-3 p.m. July 30 at the Baldwin Public Library. Denise Brennan-Nelson, author of Buzzy the Bumblebee, Rhonda Gowler Greene, author of Barnyard Song and No Pirates Allowed, and Shutta Crum, author of Thunder-Boomer will all be together at one event.Summer Concerts in the Park
The city of Birmingham's summer concerts in the park series continues with a free performance by Mainstreet Soul at 7 p.m. in Shain Park. Seating is on the lawn, so bring a blanket or lawn chair.Jazz at the Maple Theater Cafe
The staff at the revamped Maple Theater show again why this is not your parent's Maple Theater by hosting live music at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 1. Hear the Dave Lundin Jazz Duo play jazz for real jazz lovers, including hard bop, blues, ballads and latin tunes by giants of the genre, including Miles, Coltrane, Monk and Parker. The Birmingham Bloomfield Chamber of Commerce will host a 'Chamber 411' event for members to network and learn how to maximize membership to improve their business or organization from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 2 at the Birmingham Covington School in Bloomfield Township.
